|Michael Muscardini makes some delicious wines and we chose his 2009 Monte Rosso Vineyards Zinfandel an outing we had to Bodega Bay. It was one of several send off parties we had for my Aunt and Uncle. Uncle Eberhard and Auntie Jean were here visiting us from Germany and they absolutely RULE in my book!!! Seriously the kindest, sweetest, most enthusiastic people on the planet, no kidding. So we packed up the Ford and drove out to the Bodega Headlands. After we all donned our rain gear to weather one of the years final rains we headed North along the coast up to what I believe is called Headland Cove. Beautiful views, if you haven't been it's definitely worth a visit. Back at the car we felt we had earned a glass or two of Zin so we busted out the goods and had at it. Great call on the Zin, it hit the spot. Just enough rain and cold to elevate our desire for the warmth some great wine, food and family can bring you. End result was my family & I tailgating wine country style. Yes we had our case of fine stemware and fancy foods which all paired well with the Zin and the moment but I'd like to think we are still a pretty badass family to be out hiking and tailgating in the rain. |
My sister and family are super San Francisco Giants fans and I would compare our outing to some hardcore sports fanatics for sure, but I digress. Back to the Zin, it is a 2009 which actually in my book is quite young, but damn it was smooth. If ever given a chance do yourself a favor and visit the Muscardini tasting room in the Kenwood Village just off the HWY 12 that runs the length of our beautiful Sonoma Valley. Michael shares a tasting room with Ty Caton - another outstanding local producer - also on our list at the caffe. In the same complex just around the corner you will find Enkidu - which we are working on getting on our wine list. Also one of my favorite restaurants in the Sonoma Valley, Doce Lunas. Oops gotta go, running late, off to Grapes to Glass wine education with Chris Sawyer...
